Rangers Acquire Erik Reitz In Trade With Wild

New York Rangers' President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired defenseman Erik Reitz from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for forward Dan Fritsche. ??????????? Reitz, 26, has appeared in 31 games with Minnesota this season, registering one goal and one assist for two points, along with 41 penalty minutes.? He was tied for fourth among Minnesota defensemen in goals (one), and tied for third on the club overall in penalty minutes (41).? Reitz also ranked second on the Wild with 58 hits.? He notched his first NHL point with a goal on November 15 vs. Columbus.? He also tallied his first career assist on November 22 vs. St. Louis.

Pens Acquire Garon From Oilers

The Penguins on Saturday acquired goaltender Mathieu Garon from the Oilers for goaltender Dany Sabourin, center Ryan Stone and a fourth-round pick in 2011. Columbus Acquires Williams From Atlanta

The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired center Jason Williams from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for defenseman Clay Wilson and San Jose?s sixth round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft previously acquired by Columbus in exchange for Jody Shelley on January 29, 2008, club General Manager Scott Howson announced today. Williams, 28, has tallied seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points with eight penalty minutes in 41 games with the Thrashers this season. In 337 career NHL games with Atlanta, Chicago and Detroit, he has registered 73-103-176, 123 penalty minutes, a cumulative plus/minus rating of +1, 26 power play goals and 12 game-winning goals. He has added 1-1-2 and 10 penalty minutes in 20 career playoff games and helped the Red Wings win the 2002 Stanley Cup championship. The London, Ontario native spent five-plus seasons in the Red Wings organization, including 2005-06 when he notched 21-37-58 and 26 penalty minutes in 80 games to set career highs in goals, assists, points and games played. He also represented Canada at the 2006 World Championships, tallying 2-5-7 in nine games. He split the 2006-07 season between Detroit and Chicago, combining for 15-17-32 and 44 penalty minutes in 78 games. In 2007-08, Williams picked up 13-23-36 and 22 penalty minutes in 43 games with the Blackhawks, tying for fifth on the team in scoring and assists and ranking seventh in goals. He was tied for second on the club with four game-winning goals and was sixth with six power play goals. Prior to turning professional, he spent four seasons with the Ontario Hockey League?s Peterborough Petes from 1996-00. He registered 74-120-194 and 145 penalty minutes in 249 career OHL games and collected a career-high 36-37-73 and 64 penalty minutes in 1999-00. Following his final season, he was signed by the Red Wings as a free agent on Sept. 18, 2000.

The Islanders acquired forward Junior Lessard from the Thrashers for defenseman Brett Skinner and assigned the right winger to AHL Bridgeport on Tuesday. The 28-year-old Lessard had six goals and five assists in 41 games this season with AHL Chicago. The 25-year-old Skinner played 11 games with the Islanders this season but failed to record a point.

Jackets Acquire Blunden From Chicago For Pineault

The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired left wing Mike Blunden from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for right wing Adam Pineault, club General Manager Scott Howson announced today. Blunden was assigned to the club?s American Hockey League affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. Blunden, 22, has collected three goals and seven assists for 10 points and 42 penalty minutes in 37 games with the Rockford IceHogs (AHL) this season. In 139 career AHL games, he has tallied 24-38-62, 142 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus/minus rating of +14, including a career high 16-21-37 in 74 games last season. Chicago?s second pick, 43rd overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, he has appeared in 10 games with the Blackhawks and registered 10 penalty minutes. He made his NHL debut against the Vancouver Canucks on October 25, 2006. Prior to his professional career, the Bowmanville, Ontario native played for four seasons with the Ontario Hockey League?s Erie Otters. He notched 100-81-181 and 246 penalty minutes in 236 career games with the club. He was selected to the OHL All-Star Team in 2005-06 and was selected to play in the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in 2004-05. As a teammate of Blue Jackets defensemen Kris Russell, he helped Team Canada win the gold medal at the 2006 World Junior Championships.

Toronto Acquires Brad May

Brian Burke, president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Wednesday that the hockey club has acquired forward Brad May from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a conditional sixth round draft pick in 2010. "Brad will provide character, toughness, and he is a proven winner," said Burke. "We look forward to the veteran leadership that he will give our team." May, 37, was a member of the 2007 Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks. This season he has played in 20 games for Anaheim collecting five assists with 28 penalty minutes and has registered a plus five (+5 ) rating. In 963 career NHL games with Buffalo, Vancouver, Phoenix, Colorado and Anaheim, May has recorded 285 points on 126 goals and 159 assists, along with 2,121 penalty minutes.
